When did you start shaving your legs? Shaving cream or soap?
It was my 16th Birthday, the night before Nevada City. I used to use shaving cream, but now I use soap because it’s easier to deal with.
What kind of race is your specialty?
Rainy, windy, rolling, long road race – makes me smile just writing those words together
Do you race mountain bikes or cyclocross?
I race cross on occasion, but I’m never fit enough to do well so I just suffer like a dog.
Do you listen to the same kind of music when warming-up for a TT vs a crit vs a road race? What kind is it?
I’m all over the board. It depends on my mood. I range from Bob Marley and Ray Charles to some intense Skrillex action, just to name a couple.
Would you choose a romantic dinner with your girlfriend or Go-Kart racing?
Both with the girlfriend? I’d probably only choose dinner because I’m way too competitive and Go-Karting may get ugly.
What is your most memorable personal or team result?
My biggest achievement so far in my career was my win at Mt Hood. I got dropped every lap up the main climb, but I was able to keep my cool in large part because I had James Mattis around me for most of the day.
What are your short-term and long-term cycling goals?
Short term: win races

Does anyone else in your family race bikes?
Dad used to race for the Czech national team in the 70s. He’s taught me all I know about racing and how to handle myself in tough situations.

When I grow up, I want to be awesome.
