Last weekend I had the privilege of going to BlogHer Food in Miami, Florida. What is this event? It’s a huge gathering of passionate food bloggers, and it’s worth a trip if you’re a food blogger too.
After a slightly shaky flight (let’s just leave it at “water spout tornado”), I landed in Miami ready to go and eager to learn! I met up with the California Giant gang and headed towards my first session of the BlogHer Food conference titled “Lightning Talks.” I took furious notes and learned a lot about various topics ranging from leadership skills to do’s and don’ts for speaking with the media. Like I said—tons of great stuff for food bloggers to learn!
One of my favorite topics from Blog Her was regarding video, and I’d love to share some of what I learned. Here are a few quick tips that could benefit any food blogger, of which I cannot wait to start implementing with fresh California Giant berries!
- Don’t be scared of the camera—segments for live television can really elevate your brand!
- Speaking of video, they should be short and sweet—about two minutes long. You could make a video to talk about a product, a recipe, nutrition, etc.
- Your video should have a “hook.” You know—like a theme, an emotion, or idea to set the tone of the video
Along with learning all there is to know about video, I was also Instagramming and Tweeting my heart out during the event. There were so many yummy berry smoothies and treats I got to try and I couldn’t help but share it with all my fans and followers. If that wasn’t fun enough, I even heard my name announced as a grand prize winner ($1,000 American Express gift card) and got to share with the attendees a little bit about my blog—SO GREAT!
All in all, Miama was absolutely amazing. My time at BlogHer Food was such a treat, and I feel like a stronger food blogger because of it. I met some amazing people, some of whom belonging to blogs I’ve been reading for years. There was simply so much passion for food and writing all around me, and I loved every minute of it. Meeting everyone was a thrill, and I am so thankful to California Giant Berry Farms for sending me and thankful to serve as their Brand Ambassador! I’ll remember my first BlogHer Food with warm memories and happy thoughts.
